In early November, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced a new city ordinance that would raise the cost of parking at Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports. The city’s finance committee passed the measure on November 7 and the City Council passed the ordinance on November 16, just in time for the holiday season.
Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports have long charged some of the most expensive rates for long term airport parking in the US. According to the Chicago Sun Times, city officials expect this parking rate increase to generate $4.3 million in parking tax revenue and $15 million for the airport’s operating fund.
